Questions about this service
Do we still need a Windows Server at all?
Not always. For pure file and email use, Microsoft 365 and a NAS are often enough. When line-of-business software, databases or terminal servers are involved, a Windows Server remains sensible. I advise neutrally in both directions.
How long does a migration take?
A single server with Active Directory and files is usually migrated over a weekend. More complex environments are switched in stages so operations continue.
Can you run Windows Server on Linux virtualisation?
Yes. Windows Server runs reliably on Proxmox VE, XCP-ng or KVM, which saves licence costs compared to VMware and fits into a mixed environment.
